Following the major exhibitions “Reality Through the Eyes of Big Data” and “The Magic of the Pirot Kilim” at Belgrade’s Silosi, the second edition of the student showcase “Process 2023” was held this July. The event was organized by our non-profit organization Gaia pokret with the help of management and production students, and the showcase—which included several group exhibitions, film screenings, and music performances by guests from Serbia and abroad, along with many other accompanying programs—featured more than 70 students from numerous Belgrade faculties, including the faculties of Music, Fine Arts, Dramatic Arts and Applied Arts, Architecture, and many others.
The event occupied the entire Silosi zone, including the permanent exhibition in the gallery of the first silo, up to the so-called “pop-up” installation in the third silo, from the Honey Garden to the summer stage, while the parties were hosted at the Ponta bar by the Danube. At the opening itself, a guest from London performed—DJ Dirty Hairy—who came with his collection of rare records, while already the next day one of the region’s leading DJ stars, Dejan Milićević, performed with a completely exclusive selection of music that once a year he spins only for those gathered in front of Silosi as they enjoy the unreal sunsets for hours. A jazz trio made up of students from the Faculty of Music also gave another performance open to all visitors, while on the second weekend of this showcase the iconic Belgrade disc jockeys Petko, Marko Vuković and Ognjem also performed.
As part of the two-day cycle “The Process of Film Students’ Work,” screenings of 20 selected student films also became available to the audience at Silosi. The workshop titled “Do What Moves You” offered all those interested the chance to learn the basics of photography, painting, as well as singing and other skills our students acquire during their education. The goal of the “Process 2023” event is to empower student creativity so that, already during their studies, young artists—as well as students of all profiles—have the opportunity to exhibit and present their work, and to gain their first work experience during the showcase, whether in production or the arts.
A new hub of Belgrade’s social life
Silosi, as a new hub of Belgrade’s social life, is a project of the non-profit organization Gaia pokret, whose four pillars of activity are education, art, sport, and environmental protection. Many of our artists have presented at Silosi, such as Svetlana Ninković, Dragana Ognjenović, Milena ZeVu, Mia Stanišića, as well as dozens of students from art faculties in Belgrade, while our leading events—Bitef, EXIT, Belgrade Fashion Week and many others—have held their programs there.
From Silosi’s Honey Garden and apiary came the multiple award-winning honey brand “Mad Med,” and throughout the Silosi zone exhibitions, food and drink festivals, performances for children and adults, educational panels and conferences, craft workshops, yoga classes, bazaars of local products, and a whole range of music and various other events are held regularly.
